FishingPals 2005

New adventures are being planned for next year.  The FishingPals are heading north towards Timmins.  We'll be driving right by Azilda, and heading just north of Gogama.  We have the use of a camp with all the amenities.

Questions and Answers for FishingPals 2005

1.       What is the name of the lake?

Sashihaw Creek

2.       What kind of road access to the camp? Do you need a 4-wheel drive?

No 4-wheel drive necessary.  You can get in by car.  Highway access via 101 or 144.

3.       What type of fish can you catch?

Depending on which lake you fish, you can catch walleye, pike, bass, and trout.  There are a few choices of lakes to visit, however, it depends on whether we are willing or able to move boats from one lake to the next.  This could require putting boats up on trailers and moving them via vehicles.  Lake Sashihaw has more pike than walleye.  The bass lake (Hardiman Lake) is about an hour away from the camp (best fished in August).  It will also have pike and it’s probably a day trip.  There is a walleye lake nearby (Kenogaming Lake, which is “across the road”) which is 5 or 10 minutes away.  It will also have some pike.  The trout lake is just behind the camp, but trout have only been caught in the winter so far.

4.       How many boats do you have?

Four aluminum boats in Sashihaw.

5.       How many people can stay at the camp?

There are two camps.  The main camp has two bedrooms and can fit eight people.  There is a second smaller camp that can fit four.

6.       Is there a lot of traffic on the lake?  Police?  MNR?

There is never any traffic on the lake.  There have never been any incidents with OPP or MNR.  However, being a road accessible waterway on crown land, you should carry the appropriate licenses (fishing and boating licenses).  Having beer in the boat has been common practice in the past, so the chances are pretty slim that this will be a problem.  It is pretty rare to see anyone else out on the lake.

7.       Is there a swimming area?

There is no real area for swimming, but there is a little tub up at the camp (a cold tub).  The cold tub is basically a big container of unheated water (ie. not a hot tub).  If you want to go swimming, you would have to jump in the boat and go all the way in the middle of the lake somewhere.  At the dock, there are a lot of rocks and it's shallow.

8.       Sauna?

There is a sauna and shower.

  9. Are there any known portages to adjacent lakes?  Canoes?

There are one or two canoes available for portages.  It is possible to get into a second lake from Sashihaw.  There is a big map at the camp to show the waterways.

10. AC Generators?  Propane?

There is a Delco generator available which is powerful enough to supply voltage to all buildings.  It is located in a separate shed which is a fair distance from the camp.

11. Life jackets, nets, anchors, cushions, gas cans?

All you need is fishing tackle.

12. What kind of bait?  Worms?  Minnows?

Depends on what you to catch.  Minnows are probably best.

13. Is there a firepit?

Yes

14. Is there a barbecue?

Yes

15. Dishes?

Yes

16. Is there an oven?

Yes

17. Do we need to bring water?

Yes, drinking water.

18. When do we need to schedule it?

Anytime
