Eric & Fred
Another adventure ends, with plans underway for next year...

This year's trip was planned very much the same as previous years. We planned the trip well in advance, and we secured the camp reservation from Andre and Eddy again. The FishingPals wish to acknowledge that the use of the camp at Sashihaw Lake is very much appreciated. We know that as camps go, this one has to be considered as one of the finest. It makes staying in the woods a very easy task. Thanks again for allowing us to use the camp!! Eric was able to handle all of the groceries this year, as well as secure the rental vehicle. Now, if I can only get Eric to make webpages...

This year marked the return of one of the original FishingPals --- Marc. Marc last came fishing with us in 2001. It is always nice to get caught up with FishingPals of the past. Also, this year introduced the newest member --- Eric's son, David. He seemed to take to the fishing trip like a duck takes to water. He's a natural, and I think we can see a new long term member of the club. Welcome David! Hula Boy can now retire his grass skirt...

The drive up to Gravenhurst on Friday night was uneventful. We grabbed a little pizza in town before heading to the cottage. Everyone met up for a couple of pops, and we retired early. A special thanks to Eric and his parents for putting us up for the night. On Saturday morning, we decided to take the North Bay route to get to the camp this year. Although the maps and GPS may recommend going up 69, previous years experiences told us to stay on the fast highway this year. After a brief lunch in Chelmsford, we stopped off in Gogama to pick up some bait. We continued our journey up Highway 144. Turn left to Sashihaw Lake, or turn right to Kenogamissi Falls. Here's the map in case we need it again next year...

As anticipated, Ed was already at the camp, and had things up and running. This year, he was joined by Vic and Laurent. The long day only allowed us to get the steak dinner done, and a few short games of Sequence...

We fished all day Sunday, and were able to get a few small fish. Ron got his pike cleaning lessons, and we were able to get caught up with more male bonding. Ron had the butter chicken dinner going, and we sat down for a few rounds of Euchre. On Monday, we did a little fishing in the morning, and hauled three canoes over to Kenogaming Lake. We chained them to a tree, and planned to use them the next day. It was my turn for spaghetti dinner, which was a little difficult without pasta. Ed handed us some noodles on his way out. He was heading back to town. Thanks Ed! After dinner entertainment proved to be an enlightening experience, with our 'Angels'. Very scientific experiments were performed to observe the chemical reaction of igniting excessive gases stored in the alimentary canal. A few more rounds of Euchre followed.

On Tuesday, we spent most of the day over at Kenogaming Lake. We took the canoes and paddled to the right this year (we turned left last year). Maybe we should have turned left again... We were able to get enough fish for fried fish sandwiches for dinner. Knowing that we were leaving the next morning, we began doing a little packing to make things a little easier the next day.

The trip seemed a little short this year, but I think everyone still had an enjoyable time. During our visit, we spoke to Laurent who informed us of the ongoing effort to protect sturgeon from industrial pollution. In fact, we are anticipating next year's visit when Laurent has invited us to take a trip to the Groundhog River to witness the sturgeon habitat. Gentlemen, until next year....
